The Carriage House

One of my personal delights in this house is the carriage house, for no apparent reason. I finally got some decent photos.

The carriage house clearly needs work on the roof and gutters, and certainly needs some interior work. I'm hoping to get at least a stopgap roof repair this fall, do a more thorough job of it in the spring, and then, perhaps, do the interior renovation mostly ourselves. The foundation area under the back wall also needs work -- as nice and period as the wood is, I want stone back there.

Here you can see more clearly how the house and carriage house conjoin.

The front of the carriage house has an interesting pair of doors in need of some restoration work. Note also the boarded up area that was, I suppose, the hayloft opening.

Some views of the back (well, really, the side, but it's toward the back of the property) wall of the carriage house, with the area underneath our house inspector suggested was used for mucking out the stall. It may have, of course, had other uses.

Inside the carriage house, on the lower floor, there are still some remnants of its original use, over in the corner that was clearly once the stall.

Some kind of trough. Certainly looks nibbled about the edges.

Okay, this may be a later addition, but it certainly *looks* like things I remember seeing in stables.

This rounded thing is metal, certainly some other kind of trough, and has a hole cut in the ceiling over it.

The nifty wheel mechanism on the inside of the doors:
