I began writing what is intended to eventually become a series of fluffy science fiction mystery tales, centered around a rather-too-intelligent, nanotech-modified Airedale Terrier named Io. She can talk, she has a photographic memory, and she has the logic circuits of Sherlock Holmes. About the only thing she lacks is opposable thumbs, but she does all right anyway. Her chronicler (in the spirit of Dr. Watson) is her nominal handler, a secret agent of some sort.
My inspiration was a call for stories on the Airedale-L mailing list, and I churned forth the first story, as you may be able to tell, in just a few days. The second story is taking rather longer, as I keep getting distracted, but hopefully it will be forthcoming sometime in the next year.
